Grace is scandalous.
I have heard it said that, "Grace is getting what you don't deserve and Mercy is not getting what you do deserve." Jesus taught that Mercy was more important than sacrifice. Why? I ask myself. I'm pretty good at disciplining myself and checking off the rules. I recently watched a movie called St.Vincent and a teacher figure mentioned that he was a Catholic and in joking said that it was the best religion because it had the most rules. Now here's the thing about Grace... It's never self focused. Mercy is the same. It's always "others" focused. And I sense now that it's much bigger than I can imagine. Grace is like a seed when planted that grows into something beautiful. I can sow seeds of grace wherever I feel led. It's sorta like following rules except it's much more fun! It's also much more rewarding. I used to try to live up to a certain expectation of others and found it exhausting. Whether in the church or out side anywhere else. Instead I try to keep in mind how I would want to be treated and then follow where I am led. This is true, pure, honest and the best version of myself. It's faith that works. And yes, Grace is scandalous because who needs a second chance right? I sure do!
