Hi folks! My name Is Paul Menard and I'm a down to earth veteran pipe carver for over 13 years now residing in Oregon, USA. I'm married to a wonderful woman who's supportive of my work and we have two dogs that we love to take fly fishing and camping and hiking!
Over the span of my lifetime I have always enjoyed creating art with my hands. All of the many hours spent carving wood figures, making wooden furniture, and tying tiny flies for fishing gave me useful fine motor skills required for pipe making. So, When I discovered pipe making the natural experiences of artistry and craftsmanship during my younger years quickly became an important factor as my journey continued forward.
From the start I decided my business would be based on generosity, integrity and honesty and that has never changed. My prices are very competitive for the quality of craftsmanship and high quality materials used! I have received careful instruction from several pipe carving master's in the intricate details of internal engineering and finishing techniques. My bowl coats are simple three ingredient food grade charcoal coats with no noticeable flavor and enhance the break in process. I only use the highest quality materials and my Croatian morta wood is an exceptional bog oak dated approximately 5-7,000 years old. I'm also the only USA pipe carver who's able to obtain wood from this mill. My pipe mentor (Davorin) in Morta has been making fine pipes for over 50 years now and has taught me how to use it so the pipes won't crack or have any problems for the life of the piece. My stems are comfortable and have a nice open controlled draw in which the smoke flows effortlessly over one's tongue making the flavor profiles in the tobacco come to life! I still craft my pipes one at a time and produce pipes in various sizes, weights and bowl dimensions so any discerning pipe smoker will find something that fits their personal preferences.
Fast forward to today. I'm still offering very affordable high end pipes at a fraction of what other carvers with my experience charge and with the same integrity!! Every day excited to create new pipes and pour myself into each piece, and on my days off I'm working on our property, playing with our dogs, or off fly fishing!
During my career as a pipe carver the one thing that continues to inspire me is the relationships I have created. Many pipe friends have made my life richer and forged my business into what it is today. I'm extremely grateful for all the people I meet and who have encouraged and supported me all these years! It is the people, and the connection of the pipes who have made my life full and happy, so thank you for being a part of my humble little business!!
